When Humans Ruled the Earth
I decided to use ChatGPT for this lesson on AI. Mainly because that's the AI engine I hear the kids at school using the most. I'm pretty against this new wave of AI. I can see where it can be useful and I'm not saying it's worthless. However, I'm of the firm belief that humans are exceptionally rare beings because they possess the ability to be creative. And even though it doesn't take a highly trained eye to recognize the difference between art created by humans and art created by AI, as a society we're starting to become ambivalent to the fact that AI art is worse than Human made art. So what then? Are we on the fast track to becoming the people from Wall-E?
I'll admit my inner high schooler came out after seeing this because I wanted it to actually put it into a presentation for me. At the end of the slide breakdown, it asked if I wanted it to do just that and provide a link to view the presentation. Obviously, I said yes, but the link it provided was broken and didn't actually work. So there I am, someone who claims to dislike AI, angry that now I'm going to have to do more work.

Of course, I'm not immune to the fact that using AI can be extremely helpful. And in the case of creating a lesson about Media Literacy for High School students, it didn't do a horrible job. My exact wording in my prompt to ChatGPT was: "Create a lesson for High School Students about Media Literacy. Format it for a slide presentation." In return, it gave me a slide-by-slide breakdown of the lesson.

Here is the link to the finished presentation on Media Literacy.
As you can see, there are a few slides where I had to do some more outside work as well. But I actually had fun doing so. Maybe that's my inner nerd coming out. But for one of the slides, ChatGPT said to do a mini activity of detecting fake social media posts. So I asked ChatGPT to give me an example of a fake tweet from Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. Then I found this website TweetGen to help me make it look like an actual tweet. Another slide said to show an example of an ad from an Influencer. So I hopped on YouTube and found a Mr.Beast ad. So in a way, ChatGPT was the correct amount of helpful.
I think the content of the slides could be more fleshed out. The takeaways are a little basic for a high school-level lesson. But I found the ideas for activities to be pretty interesting. And so I've arrived at the conclusion that this is what AI should be used for: the generation of ideas, not the execution of them.
Court adjourned.
